Scott and
Randy met as mutual Grateful Dead fans in the early 90's. Randy, the veteran of
Dead and Allman Brothers shows back to 1972 and Scott, of the new generation of
jamband fans and tape traders, bridged the generation gap with music. After
seeing the Dead a few times together, Scott introduced Randy to Phish and
suggested it would be fun to play together in a band. Scott had taken up the
guitar and Randy had dabbled a bit with playing keyboards in his college days.
Bob and Scott met at a Phish-cover band show and hit it off. Bob had been
playing guitar for many years influenced Van Halen, Soundgarden and Primus. In
November of 1998 the three convened in a local church choir room to begin
practicing. Bob, now a Trey aficionado, brings his own style to the band with a
definite Anastasio tone.
Joe Capan
re-joins the band on bass. Our original bassist, Joe has been heavily
influenced by the Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, Frank Zappa, and
Phish. He also plays for the St. Louis jamband, Naked Groove. Check 'em
out!
Bryce Zucker joins Riker's Mailbox as drummer. Bryce brings a passion for Phish
rhythms and intensity that is inspiring. Bryce can rock
with the best drummers in town and is a welcome addition to the band!!
Natalie Gibbs, Randy’s daughter, adds lead and backing vocals. Her vocal talents landed her the honor of singing in the Missouri All-State Choir in 2003, and attended the University of Missouri achieved a music business degree in 2007. She is also now co-producing her fiancee, Tivis Lander's new recording inspired by modern poetry and the hip hop culture. They have recently moved to St. Louis and will appear with the band regularly.
Mark Snyder joined the band over the summer of 2002. Mark has an eclectic range of influences, playing in several prog-punk-funk-folk projects such as Mayflies (Iowa) and Shaft (MO), before moving to the St. Louis area in 2001. He cites influences from classical (Brahms, Prokofiev), classic jam/rock (Dead, Pink Floyd, Beatles), jazz (Davis, Monk), funk (James Brown, P-Funk, Bootsy) to modern (Ween, Beck, Built to Spill) among many others.
Riker's Mailbox debut was on March 5, 2001 at Cicero's in University City,
Missouri..
